On November 4, 2025, two Democrats with national security backgrounds (Navy pilot Mikie Sherrill in NJ and former CIA officer Abigail Spanberger in VA) face gubernatorial elections that will either validate or deflate the party's bet on service-oriented candidates as the path back to power in 2026.
